Practical Statistics for Site Investigations

Statistical methods allow data to speak in answering questions such as:
"How can I estimate an exposure point concentration in soil for human health and ecological risk assessments?"
"What can be considered background at this site?"
"Has the mean exposure exceeded the regulatory standard?"
"Are concentrations in the area of concern greater than background?"
"Are concentrations decreasing after cleanup/treatment/remediation?"

After taking this course you will be able to:
• compute UCLs, UPLs, UTLs and understand what they can be used for
• decide which test best compares background to site data, and be able to run it
• test for concentration trends to evaluate cleanup progress
• incorporate nondetects into these analyses without substituting one-half DL
• perform these procedures using R, the world standard in statistics software
